Sudoku is a logic-based number puzzle typically played on a 9×9 grid, subdivided into 3×3 smaller grids or blocks. The objective is to fill the grid with numbers from 1 to 9, following specific rules. Once you understand the rules, it may be a good idea to read How to Play Sudoku.
Here’s is a quick summary of the sudoku rules:
Sudoku Grid
- The 9×9 grid is divided into 9 smaller 3×3 groups. Sudoku’s Revenge also has an option to choose different shapes and symbols. This is purely cosmetic and doesn’t change the actual gameplay. If you choose to play with symbols other than numbers, it adds a level of difficulty, as it adds pattern matching to the game.
- Some blocks will be filled in. The number of these initial clues are an indicator to the difficulty of the game. Every board is guaranteed to be solvable. When choosing a board, select the difficulty slider to create boards with fewer or more filled blocks.
Sudoku Objective
To fill the entire board so that every row, column, and 3×3 block contains each number from 1 to 9 (or each symbol) exactly once.
Sudoku Rules
[Though we refer to the values 1 through 9, if you choose to play using symbols (like shapes or snowflakes) each symbol is a number behind the scenes. The only difference is that each number has been replaced with an image, making the game slightly more difficult.]
- Rows: Each row must contain the numbers 1 to 9, without repetition.
- Columns: Each column must contain the numbers 1 to 9, without repetition.
- 3×3 Groups: Each 3×3 group must contain the numbers 1 to 9, without repetition.
End of the Game
The game is over when the entire grid is filled, and each number from 1 to 9 appears exactly once in each row, column, and block.
Once you understand these basic rules, you’ll find Sudoku to be a fun and challenging puzzle!
